Mystic Seaport After-action Report
« on: June 05, 2013, 12:41:56 PM »
This past weekend I had the honor of joining by friends in the 2nd CT Light Artillery for an event at Mystic Seaport Museum. It was primarily a naval themed event, but we were invited to provide gunfire support for the naval landing party. We put on firing demonstrations thoroughout the weekend and trained hundreds of young visitors in the artillery drill using my 2/3scale Parrot Rifle "quaker"gun. For me, the hightlights of the event included seeing a full-sized replica of the CSS Hunley, an open bar reception graciously provided by the Seaport's Membership Committee, and a rousing candlelight sea shanty sing and comedy hour with our jack-tar brothers. Of course, the best thing of all is getting to yank the lanyard on their beautiful Steen-barreled napoleon.

I think I've posted these photos before, but here ya go. The smaller one is a 2/3 scale or 6.6 lb Parrot. I've made some upgrades to it recently, including a pair of much more realistic dished wheels. My son uses it for the kiddie battles that they have at our events once the grownups have all gone back to camp for a cold one. The big one is affectionately known "Naopoleon Blown-Apart". We use it as a prop on the battlefield until I can put the lessons learned in making my son's new wheels into practice and build some new ones. Once it is up and rolling, I plan to make a wheel that can be blown off and come out paired up in section with a real gun.

There were reports that a suspicious torpedo shaped object was spotted in N.Y.C..... NYPD and Homeland Security were searching all over for it...... as it turns out a replica of the CSS Hunley was the object of their search.... on the way to the event at Mystic.....

Though not cannon related it is an ordnance delivery system......
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!
