What "idiot" would take the tracking device home with them? This is about defending ones self against a bear attack. Not poaching.

A real knowitall, aren'tcha Dee?  ::)

Well SHOOTALL, your guy was doin something that at the time was illegal. His trophies of his "illegal activity" got him. I just don't see it as the same as shootin a dangerous bear, and walkin away.

Well I don't either except that the tracking device is very similar and can get one caught just as easy. I have heard people say it has happened with bear. So I was just pointing out something to be aware of. Incase you had to defend yourself.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

When it comes to bear spray ,, I 'll take my chances with a rifle instead.
To many things can go wrong with a spray.
And if the wind is blowing just right, ya might just end up seasoning yourself for the bear's next meal!
