SB1 frame
« on: June 09, 2013, 05:17:25 PM »
Willa SB1 frame stand up to a 357 Maxium pressure or do I need a SB2 frame?
I have 410 shotgun that I would like to rebarrel and I know that a 357 mag is ok on the shotgun frame but not sure about the maxium. First two letters on the frame are AM.

Yes, the SB1 is fine.  Both my Maxi's are on SB1's.  My first one started as a 410 then I sent in for a 357 barrel and reamed it.  Check the FAQ, it's all documented.  You could have an issue with the large firing pin, but you won't know until you shoot it.  I use small rifle primers and I haven't had any issues.

Finding 357 Maximum brass should be your biggest concern.  And read the link below, especially "Developing a Load".

Good luck!  :)

The large firing pin on our shotgun frame was very much a problem. Factory fitted .357 barrel would flow primer metal back around the firing pin with FACTORY loaded ammo in 38 special and .357 mag. If I downloaded .357 cases to 38 special light loads it was ok. Maximum brass had to download to light 357 mag charges and then it was ok. Put the barrel on a frame with small firing pin and now we can go WAY up on the charges with no problems.
