make subsonic 22 LR?
« on: February 01, 2014, 02:15:42 PM »
How much of the original charge would result in a subsonic load? Or has anyone dumped the factory powder and replaced it with some amount of another powder to make a subsonic load for a 22? What replacement powders, what amount, might be tried? ear

I don't know, but they make subsonic .22 ammo you know...  In fact that's the easiest .22 ammo to find around here.  ::)

Seems like I've heard now n then of someone messing around w rimfires like this but is seems like a bad idea to me.  A friend once messing around managed to detonate the primer on a 22 lr and the brass flew into his shoulder and needed minor surgery to be removed.  I occasionally will remove a bullet from a LR but the bullet gets pretty distorted and I can't imagine what it would take to re-insert the bullet and recrimp properly to have any accuracy at all. And with additional risk of setting off the priming.

Be safe and just buy the right ammo.

The only place that stocks them around here was ridiculous before the price gouge. I am afraid to go look now. The worst that might happen would be a bullet stuck in a bore. ear
