« on: June 04, 2013, 01:49:39 PM »
I may be a plum big guy but I have never been a big plum guy.  What all can you do with plums?  I know you can make jam but what about other things?  Can you can them? Freeze them?  Dry them? Anybody got any recipies?

Until I discovered making fruit leather, I had about the same opinion. I don't really even care for plum jam. But when I made fruit leather out of them my esteem of the plum changed. I guess you would say I pretty much make jam, no pectin, then spread it out on plastic film and let it dry. Doesn't last very long round my house.

We're not much on jam, but strain the pulp out of the juice and it makes great-tasting jelly.  At the end of the season, we just mix together all the bits & pieces of leftover juice and make a "fruit surprise" jelly.

With my extra, after making jam,  I made a few cobblers.
I'll have to try the leather thing, next year.

makes one of the best jellies you ever had. i'm told it
makes a great wine, but i'm not a wine drinker, so i
can't back that up at all. if nothing else, you should be
able to trade for some produce you want.
