Florida drought
« on: June 28, 2013, 01:51:48 AM »
Since I retired last fall & moved back home we have been in a drought. Not much rain and the water table getting lower all the time. Finally all the ponds & marshes on the ranch dried up but two. One has a well & windmill to feed it but the other was close to being dry. The fish eating birds moved in and ate all our fish out of that pond.

Well the rains have started, everything's green now & the water table is comming up. But only have fish in one pond now. We caught a few a couple weeks ago & had a fish fry. Looks healthy here on the ranch. Every cow has a calf. Going to be a good year I believe.

Did see coyote tracks in the dirt road about 200 yards from the house & a lot of turkey feathers scattered around.  >:( those coyotes are always lurking around.

How's things in your neck of the woods?

We've been getting a whole lot of rain in northern AL. The garden couldn't be any better. Everything is nice and green and there is a bumper crop of little animals running around from the mild winter last year. There was a bobcat in the yard a few days ago that killed a squirrel. I thought about shooting her, but figured she wasn't bothering anything yet and probably had some little ones to support off in the woods a bit. It was hanging around last year as well but didn't bother the dog so I let it be. Won't be long until I'm fighting the squirrels over the fruit trees anyhow, so maybe it will thin some out. The wife said it was laying on the bow target that hangs in the tree 50 yards from the back porch the other day. She went to her car and it popped it's head up. As soon as she got going and looked back it plopped it's head down and went cack to napping.
