S&W 50 cal

Why in God's name do we need a side arm this big? I would rather use a rifle which is more practical and does the same job.A sore shoulder is better than a broken nose.

If "need" had anything to do with anything most of us wouldn't have half of what we have.
Do you "need" everything you have?
So what does "need" have to do with it is my question to you.

I've never broken my nose with my 500 and mine doesn't have a compensator but, it will let youu know exactly where all the arthritis is in your hand. If you'll read what John Ross wrote on his website may give you some insight into his wanting this behemoth of a pistol and your first time shooting one will let
know what the weight is for ie the recoil.

A neighbor of mine has one.  He hunts a lot in the midwest where a straight wall cartridge is required.  I expect a lot of the cartridges popularity comes from this restriction.
