African American Organizations Want College to Stop Identifying Race in Crime Alerts

When a crime alert is issued, you probably want to know as much as possible about the suspect. After all, if you see this person, you want to be able to call the police or defend yourself, if necessary. Apparently, however, identifying the suspect’s race is unfair, even if it could help prevent additional crimes from occurring.

According to CBS Minnesota, members of the African American and African Studies, Black Faculty and Staff Association, Black Graduate and Professional Student Association, Black Men’s Forum, Black Student Union and Huntley House for African American Males sent University of Minnesota officials a letter explaining that “profiling” can be devastating for black male students. They wrote, ��

I think this makes perfect sense. I believe in fair chase.

Should not be a big deal, just look for a black as they commit by far the largest percent of crimes.

  Next question, is the school going to be stupid enough to acquiesce to their demands?
   I assume they would like to catch any perpetrator as soon as possible.  If they do, it helps greatly to know if the one they are after is 5'3" tall or 6'7" tall, if he/she was wearing a blue hoodie sweat shirt or an Orange Broncos jacket.  It may even help to know what type gun or knife they had, or if they had an accent.  Just as important for policeto know if the one they are searching for is white, black, Hispanic or other..
   I can't help but believe that anyone who wants any such information suppressed, simply does not want the perps to be apprehended.

Probably.  Minnesota is a very liberal placce and the U of M is even more so.  I'm sure theybelieve that if someone black says something it absolutely has to be true.  They will probably acquiesce without giving it a second thought.  I mean, heaven forbid they identify a criminal by race, whatever the color. 
 
And, of course statistics lie or can be made to lie so anything, any statistics that paints a racist picture (to racists of any color that is) have to be false....... so they say................

  This brings us back to "profiling", which has been an effective law enforcement tool since civilization began.  It is still used but I don't know what they call it now in this PC age.
   How often have we heard when police are looking for a serial killer, we find they have consulted an "expert", who tells them they can expect to find the killer will match this description:
        " White, male, age between 34 and 42, have a couple siblings with him being the middle child, parents divorced, fascinated with cars, torture animals as a child, has been arrested before and possibly belongs to a cult."

  More often than not, this profile proves to be quite accurate once the perpetrator is apprehended, by way of this "profile".   So why should people be willing to to remain blind and stupid toward pertinent facts?

"5"8, blue jeans, hoodie, sneakers, about 25 years old".  That really narrows it down around here.  It helps a little to know complexion, but not much.  If it comes down to:  "Hey boy, you got any ID?" then it is profiling.  I have heard cops ask first thing for a name of someone walking around a house; don't know if I would have the quick wits to not answer, or give a false one.  And I have never been asked except by traffic cops, (and the TSA).

And they were caught by a truck driver "Sort of" That pitiful excuse of a Police Chief was police chief in two Oregon cities before going to DC. He was a joke in all three positions.

What needs to happen is get rid of groups like that - kick their ignorant asses right off campus. Enough catering to special interests!

Well, fair's fair, how about eliminating all mention of race on the college application, too?

Umm re-read the last paragraph of the original post a few times.....The more I read it the more ironic it seems.  Any chance those groups will drop race from their names too? I don't like arbitrary profiling but shoot the more info (hopefully accurate) the better. 


For a different twist, I think of when I worked in Dutch Harbor.  I'd get mammas calling for word on their sons: " he's about 21, 180 lbs , 6 foot, blond blue eyes and has a beard" - oh and he works on a crab boat from Seattle.  SHOOT well over half the fleet was of Nordic background, we had 250+ boats at 4-8 crew each, maybe 70% boats were from Seattle.  Not much help at all. Needless to say I never bothered to even try unless I happened to actually know the particular young man.

All the news in this area will never say race in crime descriptions,,,,,,,too many people say it is profiling,,,,,,but the majority of crime is done by the ones saying it would be profiling....duh!
