Any ine make a scout style scope mount?
« on: January 31, 2014, 04:04:11 AM »
Im imagining something that you would take the forend off, place this imaginary mount over the lug and put forearm back on and it tightens said mount between barrel and forearm and the mount would curve around to the top of the barrel and was a weaver style base... anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Not sure what the sever problems have done but if you use the search function you'll find a lot on scout scopes, I have one that uses a extra long weaver rail screwed into all of the rear screws, I then used Magnum Steel,(a JB weld like stuff but in a tow part putty) To make a base, with  a screw thru the front to stabilize it, Works very well.

Stability and tension placed on the barrel might not be best for accuracy.  I think some have used long rails and mounted scope ahead of hammer, others have used the rear iron sight holes to mount something I think.

See the scout mounts in the FAQs sticky, the best place to learn a lot about Handis.  ;)

I used the two rear sight mount holes with a T/C mount. I drilled and tapped both of the holes to a #8-32.

Here is a picture of my 44 Mag with a 1.3X pistol scope mounted on it.

check out atigunstocks.com they have a stock for H&R/NEF rifles/shotguns that has a front handguard that could have a scope rail mounted on it which would give you the scout scope mount style your looking for, they also have a deluxe heatshield which might allow you to mount a scope rail on it. maybe this helps...JimP.

This will be going on a turkey gun and the 12 gauge is not drilled and tspped for scope.. (I know this isn't the shotgun thread but centerfires use scopes more obviously)

I used the factory rear site threaded holes and a weaver base to mount a red dot in a single ring.  Easy to drill a second hole in a base to align the holes... I just did it again this AM on a Ruger MKIII. Took about ten minutes.  ;D

Like the man said, this is going on a shotgun with no rear sight holes drilled. What .45-70.gov posted looks intriguing!  We need more information on that set up!  Maybe make it with a long Weaver base to mount a pistol scope...
