Probably shouldn't be in the classifieds....how is the comb height?  I keep looking at the standard non-thumbhole and would like a better cheek weld than what I get with the black plastic stock I have when I am using a scoped barrel.

I'm not into the thumbhole stocks but due to this thread I see that Boyds is once again making standard butt stocks and fore ends for Contenders and Encores/Prohunters.

I will be ordering a pepper set for my Prohunter as soon as I figure out what fore end is for the factory tapered barrels.

I also wanted a pepper taper forend for a Contender but, called Boyd's & they said no custom work for now. The standard forend fits the latest contender barrels but, the other forend has a supper wide barrel channel & screw spacing does not fit any of my carbine barrels? I am sending it back tomorrow.

Just for clarification you are saying that these fore ends are for bull barrels?

If they are = that works for me I was wanting another Contender bull barrel fore end.

Yes. The standard Fit my 375JDJ bull perfect.

Have no idea what the other forend fits. Screw spacing is only 3 1/4" ?

Need a tapered forend. My go with High Plains if wood is close to matching stock.

High Plains are definitely nice looking stuff my problem is with shipping I am in British Columbia, Canada with the recent US export law changes I can only have a stock shipped to me without a US export permit/Canadian import permit if the price is $100.00 or under.

I'm looking at a Pepper Prohunter butt stock $79.00 + shipping = can be shipped without a permit.

Fore ends are $49.00 each = I can order a pepper bull Contender fore end and a factory taper if it is available due to being under $100.00 order these two can also be shipped direct.

Pain is I have to pay for shipping twice if I am lucky there will not be any duty charges if not I will be hit with duties not everything is checked so sometimes you get lucky.

Shot my 375 JDJ 20" carbine barrel with the new Boyd's thumbhole stock & forend install. What a difference in recoil from the T/C synthetic stock. It must of cut felt recoil in half.

Also my Hornady 220gn FP (Deer,Bear) load shot in the same place as my Hornady 225 SP (Elk) @ 100yards. Using Varget powder @ 2500FPS.

Interesting velocities with Varget I am using IMR 4064 for my 21" barreled 375JDJ 260gr loads and did not see a velocity gain when dropping down in weight to the 220gr/225gr bullets.

I'm going to look around for some Varget curious if I can get those velocities as well with these light bullets.

Thanks always good to have the data...   ;D

I've been thinking about these loads they will definitely make my 375JDJ even more of my favorite Contender barrel combo.

My 21" factory tapered 375JDJ is my avatar pic it was a 375 Win until JDJ rechambered it for me it is so much my favorite that I never remove this barrel from the action I swap out my other barrels/frames all of the time but never this one.

Hey, I got the heavy rifle (guess they mean bull) fore arm and it has the same bolt pattern 3.150" center to center. will not fit any of my factory carbine barrels ??? Called them 3 times so far and still no definite answer. Hope they did not make a big run of these forearms.  The butt stock is just like my old one and fits fine. They are gonna call me back on Monday. Maybe I should send em my old forearm for a template?   :o

I called Boyd's and talked to a very nice lady about the heavy forend not fitting any Contender barrels & how folks could get it mixed up for a bull barrel forend. She was clueless. Just gave me the return number & charged me 12% restocking fee.
Bottom line is,  if you have a T/C bull barrel, order the standard forend. If you have a T/C tapered barrel. they DO NOT make a forend that fits.

Hendog,That is just wrong and bad PR if they charge us a restocking fee for a product that does not fit any factory barrels as advertised ! Best thing they could do is send a prepaid shipping tag for the return and send a forearm that fits properly or refund your money.....

my boyds thumbhole on my 6.8  contender cracked through the wrist during  the first deer hunting trip.    they told me tough crap  when I called them since it had been a year since I ordered it.

Hmmm... that sucks 6.8spc has so little recoil something had to be wrong with the stock.
