Must have been parked next to a fire hydrant.

Fire trucks make a big barrier to protect the rescue personnel.  Every time I get caught in traffic like that, I think how I would feel it it was me or a family member being taken care of.  I bet the "peace" is not that easy between the 2.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

I can see the conversation now.  I AM AN OFFICER OF THE LAW! I SAID MOVE IT NOW MISTER! The hot donut sign is on! Quit blocking traffic!  :)

I typed this sitting in a patrol car. How's that for irony.  :D

No sir, no donut shops on base.  ;D There's a cupcake place. Thankfully I work midnights when they are closed. I bet the day shift fellas do their best to keep it from getting robbed. They are the kind with a normal sized cupcake and about 5 times the normal height of frosting. Been noticing some of the fellas on days are starting to bulge their uniform shirts a bit. They still have a few months until new ones are ordered so they better slow it down a bit.  :D

There was an arrogant officer I worked with. He had an air about him as a know it all would. The same type that you see stories on all the time that think they are in charge of everyone.
We responded to a fire at a building. The firetruck arrives and starts putting it out. They need more water and the Captain comes out. Asks if that was my car (parked in front of the fire hydrant). I told him no sir. He looks at the other guy and tells him to move it very gruffly (had dealt with his arrogance previously). The guy just stares at the Capt. like an idiot, assuming because he was scolding him. The Capt starts in on a rant, goes to a side panel on the truck and pulls out an axe. Smashes both windows and they run the fire hose through the car and to a water inlet on the truck.
The rest of us on shift ordered the firehouse pizzas that night. That was priceless. One of the firemen posted a picture online but don't know where.

Glad to know you are a police officer.
I wondered how you could type this reply on a phone from the back seat of a patrol car with your hands cuffed behind you.  ;D

That would have been funnier PowPow, though not for me.

Sorry to derail your post a bit Ex 49'er. We can only speculate and point fingers at the fella, not knowing the true circumstances. I will say that a fire truck blocking traffic is a good thing in my mind though. Of coarse it creates safety for the firemen who generally have an emt aboard. Even if they don't have one all are train as first responders like any other emergency personnel.
Often the folks with injuries will need to be put on a backboard, then gurney and taken away in an ambulance. That generally means they will be in the middle of the road doing all of that. Even though many folks are very self centered I doubt any would willingly choose to kill someone over being late for work or wherever they happen to be going. An emergency vehicle impeding traffic or all together stopping it creates safety for the injured, those helping and those that may otherwise unintentionally create more injuries by running them over.
