12 PDR COEHORN BUILD
« on: February 07, 2014, 12:53:35 PM »

I'm coming along on my mortar bed based on these dimensions posted in the sticky's here.  Does anyone have a source where to purchase authentic looking handles?

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Thanks, I didn't know they made hardware too.  Couldn't find the proper handles on any antique hardware websites.  I bought the 4 1/2" barrel for the project from Dominick and I'll give him a call.

Hern Ironworks sells a very nicely made set of handles for mortar bases. They are cast and are easy on your hands too.

I can't find a working website for them.   http://www.hernironworks.com/ says under construction.  Do they have a different site?

I uploaded a couple pictures of the ruff cut boards below.  Time to cut out for the barrel and a lot of sanding.

Here's the barrel.  It's one of Dominick Carpenters 4 1/2" paintcan size mortars.  Unfortunately, he doesn't make the handles for this type of bed which is coming along slowly.  I'm still looking for some reasonably priced handles.

No, just a fun scale build that shoots quart size paint cans for a good BOOM.  Didn't want to spend the $$$ on a scale barrrel.  But there's no reason the bed can't look authentic.  Just having trouble finding reasonably priced scale handles.

Re Hern Ironworks, just call them at the listed number. Joel was the guy to talk to last time I called.
