Bought a 93 17GLV because ammo is available
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:26:18 AM »
I've had a Savage 93 GL in 22 Mag for a few years and really like it for pest control and causual target practice. Since the first of the year I've found no 22 LR or 22 Mag ammo in the stores but plenty of 17 HMR. This week I was in a gun shop and they had a new Savage 93 17GLV on the rack. After thinking it over briefly I added the 17 to my accumulation.

That's a nice rifle you bought.  I haven't had any experience with Savage/Stevens other than a single shot Stevens .22 that my dad used to shoot hogs with in the fall (after the first frost) when we killed domestic hogs to go in the smoke house and render the fat in a big wash pot for lard.  Good old days.

Now I am looking at a 93R17 BTVLS in .17hmr.  This will be my first experience in shoot the .17hmr.  I have always liked the .22 magnum and wish Savage made the .17hmr I'm looking at in .22 WMR.

Your right about the ammo shortage. There is plenty of the .17hmr to be had.
