Iowa man fired for using forklift to get stuck candy bar from vending machine Published February 21, 2014 Associated Press    MILFORD, Iowa –  An Iowa man has lost his job  and unemployment benefits for using a forklift to get a candy bar from a malfunctioning vending machine, state records say.
According to state unemployment records released last month, Robert McKevitt, 27, of Spirit Lake, was working at Polaris Industries' warehouse in Milford when the incident occurred last fall.
McKevitt wanted some candy, so he deposited $1 in a vending machine for a 90-cent Twix candy bar, The Des Moines Register reported. But the candy bar got snagged on a hook and wouldn't fall.
He banged it and rocked it, but that didn't work.
The state records said McKevitt then commandeered a forklift, picked up the machine at least six times and dropped it about 2 feet onto the concrete floor. Three candy bars fell.

McKevitt was fired five days later.
McKevitt told the newspaper recently that he never lifted and dropped the vending machine but did use the forklift to move the machine back in place.
"That machine was trouble," McKevitt said. "They fired me, and now I hear they have all new vending machines there."
In a ruling released last month, a judge denied McKevitt's claim for unemployment benefits, saying he willfully disregarded his employer's  interests.

I'd imagine every one ofus has wanted to tear a vending machine apart at least once. When at WM we literally tore a pepsi machine apart before pepsi would replace it and bounced several candy vending machines around til tey were replaced. On e machine we taped up the money slot and put a sign on it stating, instant sex machine, insert $ and get screwed. YEP, new machine. POWDERMAN.  ;) ;)

I have never seen a forklift that would drop fast enough to dislodge a candy bar. However, there has been times when worse ways were thought of to get my candy bar  ;)

historically, when 2 of us rocked the machine ENOUGH, the candy would eventually fall.

Well of course he was fired! Doesn't he know that you don't lift it and drop it, you lean it forward, then slam it back into the wall. Easier, less damage, and it works better.  ;)

I will not go into details, but, I did open a soda pop machine with a .357 one time. Since it wasn't at work, I didn't get fired. Got my soda to. (I supplied the machine to a club I belonged to, and it really pi**** me off, felt good to shoot it too! :) ) gypsyman

I worked on a job once and as we were finishing up and cleaning up there was a drink machine that was in the way. After several weeks of trying to get the vending company to pick it up it ended up in the dumpster.  ;D
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
