Here is a link that compare Some of the cartridges used by us in our Handis.The figures are averages for the loads listed .In my opinion the 356 Wind and the old 30-40 look really good!

I have no argument with your assessment, but the thing that immediately comes to mind for me is how the 444 does, I don't think it gets nearly the respect it deserves. Most of the others require reaming and modifications, but as an out of the box gun with factory ammo the 444 is hard pressed to beat. If I could wave a wand and just have one cartridge family available in Handi's , although it is tough, I would go with the 30/30 parent case; 219 Wasp, 25/35, 7x30 waters, 30/30, 32 win Special, and 38/55.

Just wondering how the averages were obtained.  For example, the .44 mag velocity is quite a bit lower than what it would be for a 240 grain out of a rifle.  Were some of the velocities that were used to establish the average obtained from a handgun?  Also noticed the average bullet weight for the .444  is lighter than the average for the .44 mag - kind of makes it an apples/oranges comparison.
 
The .45/70 to .45/120 comparison kind of points out the fact of diminishing returns when going to a longer case - at least with smokeless powders.
 
The .30/40 does well, as would be expected, but perhaps a better perspective would be obtained by comparing it to a .30/30 and a .303.

Spruce these figures were arrived form the number of data points listed (number of data posts for each cartridge) hence the 44 mag has 315 loads submitted and the 45-120 has only 17.if one wants to Ammo Guide has a feature to compare individual loads too.

Nice comparison.  8)  I've pushed .45-70 a good bit further in velocity range though and that even further increases it's power margin.  I cannot wait to get a .308 mold for the .30-40 Krag.  It's next on the list for molds.  ;)
