Revolving cannon #5
« on: February 20, 2014, 09:28:31 AM »
I just finished another one.  This one is also 75 caliber.  One of the changes from the previous ones is that I designed a much simpler firing mechanism.  There are only 7 components to the entire gun assembly.  This includes the spring and the rear sight.  There are only two moving parts total.  The barrel/axle assembly is direct drive.  One revolution of the crank fires the five barrels.  There is a lug that protrudes from the rear of each barrel.  As the crank turns, a curved, spring loaded hammer rides up over each lug and drops onto the 22 blank primer atop each barrel.  Like the four previous models, the barrel fires at the 12 o'clock position. 5 shots in one second?

Ingenious design, and looks great.

I test fired it today.  It was pouring rain and I think I got the powder wet.  I was careful loading it. All five primer fired but only 3 out of 5 barrels discharged.   I now know the meaning of "keep your powder dry."  Video link below.

In the last post when I built revolving cannon #4, there was discussion about making one a golf ball bore.  Well, someone did!  Check it out.

ALso, here's a video of the 50 caliber, 8 barrel one I made about 6 years ago.

Well, that golf ball gun was certainly a good illustration of the fog of war.
