Rechamber barrel

Good Morning ,

I wanted to know if the H&R 22 Hornet barrel ( new one ) can be rechambered to 222 Remington ? Also does anyone know what twist rate H&R uses on the 22 Hornet barrels ? Would there be an issue with the extractor/ejector because one is rimmed and the other is not ? And one other question, has anyone ever had H&R make them a standard barrel but with a different twist rate, specifically either a .223 1:8 twist or a 22-250 1:9 twist ? Thank you much !!

This is the twist for the .22 Hornet from the FAQs.

22 Hornet 1 n 12" (original H&R pre '87 1:16"?)(or 1:9" for late production)

The .223s are 1 in 12 or 1 in 9.  The .22-250 is 1 in 14.

I can't help you with the re-chambering or extractor.

Others here have done the .222 and will be along to help.

222 Rem from 22 Hornet will be easy (on a lathe) The ejector/extractor can be modified but it is easier to use one for a 223. Should be a very nice conversion.The triple deuce is a great round and known for its inherent accuracy!The 1-9 twist will not be a problem for the lighter bullets.I have a 223 that I load to 222 velocity using 50 grain bullets that is a very accurate Handi.
If you are wanting to do the job by hand consider the 22K hornet.It is very easy to ruin a Handi with hand reaming to a larger cartridge.

Last I checked H&R doesn't do custom barrels unless you want to buy 250 or 500 complete rifles depending on what's wanted, current Hornet and 223 barrels are 1:9" as stated in the FAQs as Pete said.

IIRC, the 222 was offered in the barrel accessory program.  Maybe there is still one barrel left in the corner at Illion?
