What’s Your.....
« on: June 08, 2004, 01:16:30 PM »
Alright fellow Blacktail chasers.  What is your BEST EVER Blacktail Buck?  I am not asking for the Boone & Crockette ranking, just point count, spread(width) and weight.  My personal best is a 3x4 buck that has a spread of 24 1/2” and weighted 169 lbs. dressed(gutted(windpipe out and all organs removed) and legs removed at the knees).  Got him during the early season in 1965, Mendocino National Forrest, California.  Still trying to find one bigger.  Seen a few but never during the hunting season.  OK so what is your best?  Lawdog

A 3x4 plus eyeguards.  17 1/2" spread, 5 1/2" bases, field dressed weight 145. He was big enough to make B&C but I never entered him. Oh yea it was a Sitka Blacktail, killed outside of Ketchikan, AK in 1985.

A couple of years ago, basically my back yard hunting, shot a 227 pd eight pointer dressed, 26inch outside spread and 24 inch inside G2's/G3's eight inches long, I shot him off hand using a 1187 using rem sabots, got a heart shot as he was chasing five doe's, he almost ran over my blind;) he ran over sixty yards, no blood for thirty yards, half circled around, died looking in my direction laying down head up leaning ageist a tree, he was a horse of a buck, need two more guy to drag him out, I was surprised how good his meat was, I was told he was a very old buck, he had grey hairs all around his snout and neck. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.
