Animal figure patterns
« on: February 26, 2014, 03:30:41 AM »
I'm making a quiver and want to decorate it with figure carved critters. You know, tooled. Where can I find patterns for animals? I have a few in some of Al Stohlman's books, but most are either too large or too small. I'm thinging that if I where to scan them I could then enlarge or reduce to the correct size. Does anyone know of another sorce? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.  :)

Just browes threw cumputer images until you find something you like...You can print it out on your printer and then resize the image to suit your needs.

Then just use your stylus to trace the picture to transfur the features and lines that you would like to tool. Practice a few times and you will probly see improvement with each practice piece. Extra facial and muscular features will really add to the depth and shadows you can get with tooled leather.

Hope some of this helps  :D ;)

Yep, have a Tandy store nearby, already have most of Al Stohlman's books on figure carving. Have tried browsing computer images, but most are difficult to make patterns with, especially for smaller animals like foxes, bobcats. Nice job on that ram. Thanks for your responces.  :)
