Most intense big game preparation?

Hopefully this is not to OT for this thread.
I didn't even know this existed till a couple of months ago and I hope that we can get some more specialty handguns involved.
The International Tactical Rifleman's Championship (ITRC) is the last weekend in August, in Gillette, Wyoming. Steve (my hunting buddy) and myself will be competing as a team with specialty handguns. Dave Lauck of D+L Sports is the man in charge and can answer any questions that you may have after checking the website. The more the better.   If you practiced for this can you imagin how much better your field shooting would be by time big game season comes around? Wouldn't it be great to see several handgun teams shooting against Law Enforcement & Military snipers?

I will likely use my 6.5-284 XP-100. My 7.82 Patriot XP is my back-up rig. Steve will be using his 224 Vais XP, with his 6.5-284 XP being his back-up rig. I will also be using my 9mm Glock as we will have to shoot standard handguns also on some courses. I just recieved 300 rounds of Lapua brass for my 6.5-284 this week. I am going to try to do everything possible to get the best groups possible. Scope will either be a 3-12 Burris LER w/Ballistic Plex with target turrets or a 20x LER Leupold/Siebert. Haven't shot any in 2004 yet. Waiting for weather to warm up first. Also have a lot of case prep to do.  Once weather permits will consistently shoot out to 600 yards which is the length of my range here.  The later in the year will go into the country and shoot in fields to replicate actual competition more.  Will be using Harris bi-pod and or my pack as my rest set-up.   I enjoy Long Range shooting and have been able to attend the past Long Range Shooting Clinics in Nebraska.  Even made a first attempt and wrote an article on Long Range Handgun Hunting. I have no doubt that I will have a lot of fun, learn a lot, and at the same time be humbled by some outstanding shooters.

Tell me more about the leupold/Siebert 20x LER you mentioned. I did a search and find Wally Siebert provides optical accessories but no mention of rifle scopes on the web site I located.

I am an active IHMSA competator using a number of Leupold 2.5x8 pistol scopes but I would like to have more magnification with out giving up too much eye relief.

My scope started life as a 36 "D" series scope (the newer model).  Wally prefers them, but does not require them for the modification.  They have heavier springs or double springs (don't remember).  With a 36x you end up with 20 power and long eye relief.  The 24 power moves you to around 16 power LER.  The scope externally looks just like it did before.  Just give Wally a call.  He has not done many of these conversions since the demand hasn't been high.  I sure like mine.  I am considering seeing if Premier Reticle can put a mil-dot reticle in it.  If they can do that, I would be in LER High Magnification Heaven.

Just re-checked the web page the other day and they have added a chopper course.  They even supply the AR's and the ammo.  I have never beeen in a helicopter before little alone shooting out of one--This is going to be some kind of experience.
