Spring time is getting close
« on: February 28, 2014, 10:39:41 PM »
I'm sure most of you have heard the old saying about March. "If it comes in like a lion it will go out like a lamb" and vise versa. If the weatherguessers hit it today will be more like an old sore tailed tomcat than a lion. Temp of 80 degrees and wind around 35 mph. Actually a pretty nice day for this area in the spring. March will make up it's own mind about how it goes out and the wind will keep on blowing. May blow into June.

I don't get excited until they predict wind speeds above 60 mph. Then I start keeping an eye out to the southwest for smoke. I've had one grass fire burn all around me but all I lost was some fence post. Had two more keep me pretty worried. One missed me about a quarter mile to the north and the other missed me a couple of hundred yards to the south spring before last. No worries at all last spring as everything from the southwest to northwest was burned off from that last fire and we had no rain to make any grass grow back.

This year is different as we had 2" of rain last summer which made the grass grow again. It's from 12 to 18 inches tall. I have everything around the house and barns brush hogged down and am working on the rest of the place. It'll still burn but not nearly as fast and high as it does when it's standing.

They're predicting a possible ice storm here tomorrow.
Every time the temp start to warm up mother nature reminds us we don't know jack.
Pretty much a typical spring here starting up, warm, cold, warm, hot , cold, warm, cold.......

I'm about 35 miles or so north of PM and they are calling for a 4 to 8" mix of snow and ice between now and Monday morning with single digit temps.  That ain't spring!  Should be getting into the 40s and 50s by now.  It's global warming ya know.   ::)

While you guys are running snowblowers and waiting for the powerlines to fall down I've been on the tractor running a brush hog wearing a t-shirt and sunscreen. Got a little sunburn too.

Weatherguy says the warm weather is going to end. Not going to make but 60 degrees Monday. Still t-shirt weather if the wind 's not blowing much.
