Drafting guys over 60
« on: April 04, 2012, 01:37:00 AM »
I am approaching 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists.  You can't be older than 42 to join the military.  They've got the whole thing backwards.

Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys.  You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.

For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier.  'My back hurts!  I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry.' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some (censored word) that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for awhile.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10am.  Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell.  Besides, like I said, I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical Diaper Head.

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them.  In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys.  We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food.  We've also developed an appreciation for guns.  We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however... I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training. Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too... I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way. Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons, who know that their best years are already behind them.

HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50 in menopause!!! You think men have attitudes?? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They'll have it secured the first night!

l.o.     i don't know if you wrote that
as a joke, but it sounds sensible to me.
i be glad to go , don't have any family.
i can hit with one instead of 10 or more.
true- i can't outrun any rockets or bullets.
some young person wouldn't have the rest
of their life to be traumatized with injury
or mental scars. while the enemy is busy
laughing at me some of yall could flank
and pick 'em off.
(although i am a ways from 60 )
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Ranger99...et al,

I did not write that piece.  It came across the Net and I thought it "good enough" to post here to stimulate discussion.  I do not know its origin, although that person is certainly thinking and I agree with its sentiment.

that was good...kinda what I've always thought about Social Security....Draw it first....then when you reach "the age" they put you to work someplace menial until you die...allow everyone to enjoy life while they're young...could blend this in with military service after 60 deal...works for me

My grandpa joined Army in WWII at age 38 w/8 kids...was machine-gunner's helper(ammo feeder) never talked about it to anyone until 3-4 yrs before he died
12g shortie w/chokes,Tamer .410,12g "Buck" slug gun w/20g extra barrel, 12g smooth bore tracker I, 45/410 w/22vp matched set, 7mm-08, .308 20",

my avatar pic is my 1960 Rambler I bought in 1972 for $175..6 banger 3-on-the-tree...drove it for 5 yrs  22mpg.. was "hot-rodding" (LOL) one night...tore out 1st/reverse gear. Drove it that way for 2 yrs(with no reverse and only 2nd and high)  Had to really plan ahead when parking.
sold it for $125

OK thanks for that  Pardner.  That'll be going to aselect few of my closest friends, and maybe a senator or two.  8)

LO thanks for this post.  Best thing I've read in a while and best of all, it reflects my feelings to a tee.  The problem with young guys is they can be taught.  Us old guys prefer to do the teaching.

I do believe that in the 1st Gulf War a Doctor who was a Veteran was recalled at the age of 63.  He was interviewed by a local television network and said he was already packed and ready to go.
