It appears that the three big American makers have produced great performance sedans for the Australian market for decades. Sedans that far outperform the American counterpart or ones that are only produced for that market. I had a ‘92 SHO Taurus. It was a partially developed sedan trying to be what true performance sedans achieve. The demand for those cars exists here.

I used to get magazines from Australia and South Africa just to see how their markets differed, especially to cars from the Big 3, and even AMC sold cars there that differed from the U.S.
I cannot read Spanish but online there were, and sadly a lot of these sites are gone, there were sites that showed how different U.S. makes South of our border differed.

I am sure you remember the after market V-8 powered Vegas and Pintos, well in South Africa this game was started with dealer offered V-8 Capris, the Euro Capri, not the later one from Mercury.Australia had their own Holden, with a Holden V-8, equivalent of the Pinto/Vega but it was V-8 powered from the factory.

In a twist of phate, the last V-8 powered full size sedans from Chevy were built on Aussie chassis, modified for U.S. market, they died when Australia, TOTALLY quit building cars, including Japanese companies. All auto factories in Australia have been shut down; NOW, that makes me ponder that these will be built in the U.S., or Canada, and shipped over, as other wise the bodied chassis would be shipped and then finished in right-hand drive over there  but the Ausisie,Chrysler plant has been shut for decades.
