Is the .308 dead?

well im down to one. Gave the kimber montana to one nephew and the model 7 to the other. All i have left is my ar10. They had there choice of any rifle in the safe except for my favorite 280 featherweight. Wish they would have picked on of the magnums because i dont use them much anymore but they both live in montana and already had long range guns.

No more so than 100+ year cartridges like 7 x 57 and 6.5 x 55.   Lots of .308 shooters out there and good availability of both commercial and milsurp ammo and reloading components...at least bullets and brass.

My most recent acquisition was a Ruger American Predator 6.5 Creedmoor, but the one before that was a .308 No. 1.   And there is a Mexican 98 that Dick Williams put a Douglas XX .308 barrel on which shoots better than I do.  Keeper.

Last Saturday,  I Picked up a Western Field .308, Made in West Germany, on what looks like a 98 Mauser Action...

I think the 308 may be around for a long time.  Still used by the military in machine guns and short range snipers.  It kind of replaced the 3006.  It was one of the 3-4 calibers on the shelves after the ammo shortages, along with 223, and 9mm.  A lot of rifles have been sold since 1955 in 308.

I have a  94 reamed to 38-55 from JES they do great work.
