I wait for the mesquite trees to start blooming. They are usually 100% correct.

Down here when the kudzu greens up that's the best sign of no more freezing weather I know of. In my life time I've seen kudzu mess up only once.

Officially, Spring will be here on Thursday, March 19th. Using phenological observation, around here, it's generally when one one sees those spring ephemerals native to our area. Bloodroot, Liverleaf and Spring Beauties to name some of the first. Many times they will appear surrounded by snow.

Well down here in Ga.  General Lee saw his shadow so there'll be six more weeks of winter.

General Lee has never been wrong in my eyes.
Of course to me, anything under 75 degrees is winter weather.

My feet will probably warm up in May or June. :o

Jonquils are blooming here. Daffodils can't be far behind. Of course I've seen several flowering trees in bloom last month. I think they might have been rushing it a bit.

There is a local predictor here that used an elm tree and gauges of some sort to predict the weather. His son is now doing it after Dick died. Some were pretty close, NOT this year. We've barely had a dusting of snow, but according to him we should have had 41 inches so far. It was in the 60s yesterday, but should have been 22 deg. It's always fun to compare the actual to the forecast. CHARLIE.  ;D
