Broken Rod Question??????
« on: February 22, 2004, 12:45:55 PM »
Last night I was going over my rods and horror upon horror my favorite flippin stick(a 7 1/2 foot, medium heavy) had it's tip broken about three inches down from the tip.  This is the rod I use for salmon, steelhead and jig fishing the brush and tules.  My question is what effect is this going to have on the action if I get it fixed and can it be fixed so it looks right and is useful?  Or should I quit crying and just buy another and give this one away?  Lawdog

Broken Rod Question??????

I usually insert a small wire inside it with epoxy to repair it since its so close to the end they still work ok.   You can shorten the wire length so the action won't be effected that much too.  You just want to reinforce the splice point with the wire.  Even a paper clip straighted out will do too.                                                                 BigBill

I've never had much success with a repaired rod.  Normally, the action is too adversely affected for it to be much pumpkin.  My suggestion is to put a tip on it where it broke and find another use for it other that what you were using it for.  Carolina Riggin' maybe.

Skipper,

That is about what I figured too.     I think I will put a new tip on it and donate it to the church for their next sale.  Lousy end for a $125.00 rod.  How about a suggestion for a GOOD replacement?  Lawdog

Bass pro is carrying Browning again.  There's 3 grades of them.  I'd probably pick the middle grade and go from there.

Either that or an 10X All Star.
