I was cruising the dealers today on the net and I found out that AIM SURPLUS has yugo 24/47 8mm mausers again. I got one from the last batch and it was excellent/very good condition while the stocks come sanded and refinished from the arsenal my gun looks great. It also comes with the accessory kit too. Its not a bad deal you may want to take a look. It is a straight bolt mauser. BigBill

I saw the ad too and am seriously considering it (along with a M44 to round out my small Mosin Nagant collection) A few folks that I communicated with via various forums have bought them and say they are quite nice for the money. Besides I need a Mauser of some sort, I don't have one yet

(and like a fool sold my Swede years ago).

I've been looking at a few others too to round out my mauser collection. At Samco they have Persian mausers model 98/29 in all conditions up to unissued, at SOG (southern ohio gun) they have a YUGO mauser model 24/52C and at AIM they also have a Czech mauser VZ-24 besides the 24/47 these are just a few but there is others. BigBill: Whazza difference tewist the Persina and Turkish Mausers? I always thought the terms were used interchangibly.

My last Mauser purchase was a VZ24/52 - arsenal refinished and rebarrelled in 1952 and stored. Mine seems like it is a new/unissued VZ24 with all the original markings overwritten with the Yugoslavian (?) spellings, like preduze, etc. In fact, my Yugo 48A and my VZ24/52 were both worked over at Factory 44. Neat, huh? Mikey.

Mikey the Persian mauser is made at the Brno Arms Factory in Czechoslovakia in the 30's and it has a 29.13" barrel. I think most of the turkish mausers werre made by "Kale". If you go to Samco's site even the stock is different there is no firing pin disassembly hole only a stock disc. Next to the yugo m48's this maybe the last unissued mausers available of course its $599 too. BigBill

Well I went down to AIM on Monday and picked up a few goodies including a 24/47. It is REAL nice. I was able to handpick one (they brought 3 for me to look at. Most are of the same quality although some have different colored wood on the handguards.

I also got a M44, 2 K31's (tags under both buttplates!) a case of Romanian 8mm ammo and a few rifle crates they were going to throw away...oh ya and a t-shirt. It was a fun day although it was a lot of driving, 500 miles round trip.

If you ever decide to go there call first, they were out of a bunch of stuff my buddy was looking for.

Hey Bill?

Does the wood on yours feel "rough"? I was going to give it a Lemon Oil rubdown but the wood on mine is kinda rough to touch. Just wondering as this is the first rifle I've recieved that feels like this. Seems like it would need a final sanding or something but I'm reluctant to do so.

That's a real nice looking Mauser you picked up - in fact, that's a great looking Mauser you picked up.

When I purchased my last Mauser, a VZ24/52, it too seemed to have a bit of a rough finish to it, especially after I cleaned all the cozmoline off. I solved the roughness problem with some 4-0 steel wool and a little linseed oil - smoothed the wood right out. HTH. Mikey.

Its on my list of stocks to smooth out mine is kind of rough too and Mikey is right course steelwool may do the trick then i use fine steelwool then tung oil about 4 or 5 coats will do it up. BigBill

I have even cleaned up really bad oily stocks with just course steelwool too. I'm not all for cleaning up stocks or touch them but if we leave the oil soaked stocks alone in time they will go soft or may even rot. I have one Yugo sks that is really bad even after cleaning it I think they played ice hocky with it. I like the course steelwool because it cuts the very thin layer of soft oil soaked wood off the stock very even too.

I was just looking through the Military Surplus forum, when I came across your posts regarding the Mauser. I was out to my local dealer today looking for 44s. He didn't have the 44s, but did have a lot of well used Mausers. One had a particularly nice bore, and the reciever, sights, and bolt looked good. Not knowing much about them, I was lucky to be able to I.D. it as a Mauser. I thought I would look on the internet to see if I could get some info on it, when I spotted the reference to Kale. The crest on the reciever mentioned K. Kale over the date 1944, and under a moon with a star over it. Over the star are ther letters T C, on one side of the moon and star is written AS over ANK, on the other side it has FA over ARA. Is this a Turkish Mauser?

That's a Turkish Mauser. They used to be a dime a dozen and about $39.00 a piece. They are getting more difficult to find and the prices are rising accordingly. Fun guns though.
