Paper hulls
« on: June 20, 2020, 10:33:27 PM »
I got a bunch of paper hulled 12g rounds in a box of stuff that belonged to a friend that passed away.  These look to be at least 50 years old.  Any chance they're safe to shoot?

If they're any good, I'd like to let my grandsons shot them out of my Stevens double barrel.

As long as they've not gotten wet and swelled up they should be fine. You'll love the smell of them. That's the one thing I miss most with plastic shells. The smell of firing those old paper hulls was a real experience.

I'll take note of the smell when we shoot them.  I think I'll run them though my 870 rather than my Savage double barrel just in case the pressure is higher than specs...

Two of them are labeled #4 Eastern Buck and I plan to save those 2 for the novelty of it...

I used to have a bunch of red Winchester
paper case shells.
I wish I hadn't shot them because later
on I ran into a collector that would have
paid me well for a box of unfired like new
shells like that
Oh well.   .  .  .

I  don't have a full box of any of them.  They are all loose and mixed rounds.  I figured I'd just use them for blasting ammo...
