Help for the Helper - Default for "New Tab" on a PC
« on: July 16, 2020, 12:47:17 AM »
I am typically the one with a computer answer.  Not today.

I changed my Windows 10 PC (Microsoft EDGE browser) default Home Page to DuckDuckGo.com (DDG).
When I select "NEW TAB" I immediately get a Bing page and not the DDG page.  That HAS to be selective.

How do I change New Tab from Bing to DDG?  Searching the Net for this topic has not supported an answer.

I'm still using Win7. Tried W10 once for a short while and might as well been trying to read some ancient language I had never seen before. I was so lost I had Matt take W10 off and put W7 on for me. I haven't tried it since and might would give up computers before trying W10 again.

So I sure can't help ya.

W10 was FORCED onto my 2018 PC (which began its new life in early 2019 as W8) as W8 support (W7 too I had thought) was press-ganged into obscurity by MicroS**t.

I was DUMBFOUNDED when the new 2018 MicroSoft s**tware ran fine out of the box for the first 90-days and THEN expected me to "pay to play" in order to PRINT ANYTHING within a Micros**t product (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).  They expected me, held me ransom, to PURCHASE a LICENSE to PRINT from their s**tware.

I DUMPED Microsoft to the greatest extent possible and loaded Libre Office, from whence I have had nothing but RELIEF from some Micro-s**tware.

I got used to W10, like the change in Go2GBO to the VerticalScope platform.  It takes time, has its frustrations, and change chaffs us all to a degree...some more than others.

I use Edge for streaming video only and I use Firefox for everything else.  I started using Firefox browser back in the WinXP days and I've been happy with it all these years...

I used to work for MS and sometimes they can be like the Borg.  Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated...  ;D

Is there a reason for using edge instead of firefox for streaming video? I use firefox for all browsing and streaming, just wondering if edge does something better for streaming.

Supposedly Edge gives higher video resolution but that's been over a year and Firefox may have caught up...  I don't remember where I saw the video streaming specs from the various browser compared...

There's no TV signal out where I live and since I need Internet for my business, I pilfer it for personal use.  I have a quad core PC hooked up to my TV and I stream all the TV that I watch.

It looked so good, I bought a same brand 43" TV to replace the 2 27" monitors on my desktop.  Sometimes I miss the dual display set up but I know I'll never buy a bigger monitor... :)
