Driving in the Rain
« on: April 20, 2004, 10:25:07 AM »
Got a good tip from the dept of trans. Say it's raining, has been raining several hours or everyday for a while.

Dont use the cruise control. If you start to hydro-plane, the vehical will slow down and the cruise will kick in to try & make up for the lost speed.
the rapidly spinning wheels will throw you into the ditch right now.

No worries there.  Here, every one drives like Jeff Gordon when it's sunny, but when that first drop of rain hits the windshield, they instantly become Miss Daisy!     One can't use cruise control because traffic is crawling and every one is tapping their brakes for no reason! :(   They're so panicky that they CAUSE accidents, which just reinforces their idea that rain is dangerous to drive in.

driving in snow

If you're driving in blinding snow at night, it's easier to see with your lights off. Wouldn't reccommend it for anything but lonely roads, but it can keep you out of a ditch till you can get somewhere. Also makes it easier to see oncoming traffic, at which point you can turn 'em back on. And on the snow subject, if there is a full moon and snow it's a lot easier hunting rabbits at night. (Legal here w/o artificial light)
