Something to watch for those who like auto racing...instead of caving to the new, racist organization !

bob youd probably get a kick out the book my sister gave me years ago on the history of nascar. Some cool pic in it. They had a convertible series for convertible cars for a while. So much for safety gear. Pictures of racers going around the track smoking a cigarette or cigar and being handed a beer during I pit stop. Tell you what id like to see its going back to STOCK cars. All the big three make street cars today with as much hp as a nascar motor. Lets see who makes the toughest one. One that will hold up to 500 miles of wide open. Put a set of race tires on them a roll cage and a race seat and let them go at it. ZL1 vs hell cat vs shellby 500s. If 500 miles is to long for them shorten the race to 300 miles. It would spark some sales for the car manufactures because what you have now are cookie cutter cars with a slap on body. get it back to what wins on sunday sells on Monday. Might even get Chrysler back in it and for the Toyota fans maybe spark them to make a real muscle car.

Genuine STOCK cars would be interesting, as you said, just to prove which was toughest.  But of course, running all out for 500 miles, doing continuous left turns in a big cup, isn't truly, the toughest type race.

Doing 500 miles in the Rockies or the Baha, or even on Virginia's Skyline Drive would be a more grueling test, trying ALL components... uphill, downhill, lefts, rights...doing it in whatever weather presents itself. ...Now, THAT is testing an all-round test of a car !

Hey, Watkins  Glen was a nice course for that, but I don't know if they still run the road courses. Hey there are likely some very rural roads in the UP, that would lend themselves to be a great road race course !

Obviously, big bowl racing ovals are preferred to road courses, since the promoter can gain better crowd control, and get every spectator to pay...and pay dearly !
