Hughesnet SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

Anybody else got it? I lost my regular provider several months ago and went to Hugesnet.
It is absolutely useless it's so slow.

That's not what they advertise.  Are you certain that there is no teenaged girl in the house eating up your bandwidth downloading from the Net?

We don't have a computer, we bought it to watch movies, and on demand. Its useless for both. Way too slow.

What speed do you get? I have a choice between Hugesnet and wireless from the local telephone co-op. I chose the wireless because clouds don't bother it and there is no limit on how much you use it. I'm throttled at a maximum speed of 19 mbps and that does just fine. Sometimes during high use periods it will drop down to as low as 10 mbps but everything still works OK while streaming a movie and my wife using her ipad on wifi. My son is on the same system and they have him at a max of 15 and he can stream OK.

I don't think I could live with that slow of a throughput any more.  I've had 100MBPS internet for the past several years and I'm used to it.   I need a good internet connection for my small home based business and I pilfer it for personal use.  It's rather amazing that I can get this speed in the small out of the way town I live in...

When I lived on the outside edges of Portland, the internet was fast there.  It's an area known as the Silicon Forest since there's a lot of high-tech companies and universities in the area and they all need fast internet.  I had 20MBPS internet there and it seemed to be as fast as the 100MBPS connection I have now. 

If you use a wireless router, then you can chop half the speed off your connection...  I can't stream some stuff from my wireless connection in my work shop but the 2 computers that I have hardwired in, have no such problem.

Yep, hughesnet does suck. Signed up with Dish for satellite tv service in 2016 and they were promoting their satellite internet service. Turns out the service was through hughesnet and it was terrible. We finally gave up on it six months into our 2 year contract and signed on with AT&T for internet service via their cell network. It works good and is very reliable. We don't stream movies or any of that but it meets our needs for internet service.

Movie theaters are all closed down due to covid shutdown. Still havent been able to see Grayhound.
They want you to stream everything. Some places are not able to do that very well. We can't .

Yeah, we are using our AT@T hot spot it's working much better. Still can't stream anything but internet
works pretty good now. Avoid Windsteam like a snake, they are full of S about their service.

You take what you can get for internet service in your area. I feel lucky to have the 18 mbps. It was just a few years ago that 3 mbps was the fastest available for me. I have two range extenders, one to get a decent signal out to the patio and another to get one out to the garage. How did I know to do this? My computer geek son told me. I’m in the same boat as Dee when it comes to computers.

 Argent;  seeing as you cannot get "Greyhound" to watch, I would like to recommend a great book along the same line.  Our destroyers are  called "the greyhounds of the sea".
  Smaller and faster than other ships, they rely on those characteristics.  They normally couldn't slug it out with the big guys, but they do carry a sting in their torpedoes.

Thanks IG I'll look into finding that book. Apple TV + is playing Greyhound but you still have to have a good
internet connection. We had to get rid of Hughes Net because it really sucked.
