Can't read threads/posts
« on: August 12, 2020, 04:19:01 AM »
For a couple weeks now the posts have sort of "blended" together to the point many of the words overlap with the words directly over them, often making reading them very difficult.

I was told that this problem might be a "codeing" error at the sites end.  is anyone else experiencing this?

Only problem here is some times a link is shrank down to smallest font possible, looks like a line, not a link.

My home PC platform is Microsoft Edge 10 and current "No Data Tracking" browser is duckduckgo. On the PC I continuously run "Ad Blocker" and "Avast Free Antivirus". I rarely use, but have it to run, "Spyware Blaster" and "CCleaner", generally detecting nothing. All of these are Freeware.

Once in a while, if the PC seems slow, or sites load wrong, use SHIFT-ALT-DEL simultaneously.  Clear cache, cookies, and history, then reboot. These are the "infamous" IT tools recommend as the first attempt to solve most PC problems.

When posting, some lines come up in a small font while typing, then when I actually post the line it come out full sized, but with things  like [size 78]  or [/size][size]  etc.

Sometime I go back and knockout those bracketed parts, and sometimes I leave them in, hoping it may give a clue to the site operators of how to fix it ![/size][/size]

I don't think it's fixable by Matt and certainly not by me.

I say that cuz I don't think it has anything to do with the site but rather with your computer. There are only two of you having any issues at all with the sizing. Yours most commonly saying sizing at 78% and one other where his links post as some weird font in a size 2 which is so tiny a magnifying glass would be needed to read it.

I have checked and the smallest font size the server can assign is size 8 point, check it yourself it's in the top right between font face and change color.

So both of you have to be bringing those old fonts and font size into the post from outside. It is either coming from the source of the copy or from whatever you are typing it into.

Perhaps your computer is set to do that automatically, I'm not tech savvy enough to say. I can say for sure tho that the server here isn't doing it so it isn't something we can fix.

I post here more than anyone else while trying to help the site get off to a good start. I allow the default font and size to be set by the server in all of my posts and mine never have any weird font, size or color show up.

As I said, I'm not computer savy, but I do post on a couple of other sites, none of which have shown any issue as yet.

I just went to reloaded on my I phone, and you're right, no problem there at all. It must be my computer. I'll make some "Geek Squad" inquiries and see what can be done.

Thank you everyone for the help! I appreciate it.

Hey Old Man, if you get the "[size]" bug figured out, please let the rest of us know - it is probably a similar issue for Sandhillbilly and his infinitely small text.  I am "fairly" Tech savvy, have the same [/size][size=78%] issue, and cannot find the solution.

I just post, then edit right away to remove the undesired and auto-inserted BBCode (Bulletin Board Code).  It happens EVERY TIME I highlight a portion of a[/size][size=78%][/size]post and move the highlighted[size=78%][/size][size=78%]portion in that post.  I do not believe that it is my PC, as this anomaly ONLY happens here.[/size]

[size=78%]You can see where I did that as a TEST in THIS POST.  Everything thereafter is within the "size" tags, which I DID NOT SET.[/size]

[LATE NOTE]  Perhaps the question to ask is whether WYSIWYG is active on this site or another word processor?  Which one?  Something is active and controlling the post font, size, and type style that is not Member driven.  Perhaps in that there is a clue...be back in a few minutes with any insight I find.

I think I've got the solution.  I changed my profile and tried to make [size] happen in the TEST Forum - it didn't.  That's progress....

Here's the solution:

a.)  In the Header of this site navigate to (go to the top and find) >> PROFILE
b.)  Under Profile navigate to >> ACCOUNT SETTINGS
c.)  Under Account Settings navigate to >> MODIFY PROFILE
d.)  Under Modify Profile navigate to >> LOOK AND LAYOUT
e.)  Under Look and Layout and DISABLE (uncheck) Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default.
f.)  SAVE change.

If this "works" for you, REPLY "Worked" and we'll post these instructions as a Sticky.
Please, do your testing in the TEST Forum.

You might be right. I just went there and on mine that isn't checked and I haven't experienced any of the issues you guys have mentioned.

That fixed my tiny link over on the fishing page. 8)

What does WYSIWYG mean.

Sadly when I get computer, or often, savy at many things, if I stop doing it, I remember I used to know how to do it and that is all.

I changed the default to WYSIWYG OFF so now everyone should be good to go... Great job Land_Owner, I had forgotten all about that feature.

Woo Hoo!  "Global" change!  Everybody's happy.  I guess that's why they pay us (Mods) the big bucks!  Would this be a good time to ask for a raise?

Please add another zero ("0") to my pay check.  That would make it...$0.00 (and add a zero).

Sure that's not an unreasonable raise to ask for. It puts your salary at the same level as mine. I would say as Matt's also but he is paying for the cost to run the site out of his so his doesn't just have zeros but rather has a monthly negative to pay for the site hosting each month.

On the original site we sold I was the one footing the bills, now Matt does.
