So you have a Glock or S&w 9mm
« on: September 26, 2020, 01:17:10 PM »
So, you have a 9mm handgun for self defense at home, but can't find ammo during this time.  Don't despair, just get out that Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60, and have it ready.

Personally, I don't think you would lose much, by doing so.  An old model 60 with 16 Mini Mags can be quite formidable..as can a Ruger 10/22 with a couple mags.

A pump or auto shotgun with low brass #6 shells, can do very well also.

  Just my $ .02 ..

I'm not concerned about ammo for any of my guns. I planned ahead and have enough on hand. A 22LR is better than a sharp stick, well at least if you are outside of stick the stick in and twist it range, but sure not what I'd want in hand if my life was on the line.

If you need 9s stop buy. Ive got thousands. A 50 cal ammo cans and about a half a dozen 3lb coffee cans full. 40s? 45s? 556? about the same. I could probably quit loading today and shoot 3 times a week and never run out. If i do ive got a cabinet full of powder another full of primers and LOTS of brass. I try to maintain the stash i have. I take a coffee can and shoot them and when there shot load them back up and rotate to a different can. probably 5 coffee cans of already casted bullets in each caliber and 5k ball 556 bullets ready to load. I never understood those who have 10 or more guns and a box of ammo or two for each. Guns just a heavy stick without ammo. Ammo is my FIRST priority. Most times the hardest ammo to find is 22lr during shortages. This is the first shortage i recall when you not only cant find guns but ammo is non existent too. I had the owner of the local gun shop wanting to trade me reloads for a new gun. Told him no for a few reasons. Most importantly the liability if someone got hurt with them, second id be selling my reloads and thats illegal and third i need ammo more then i need another gun. Especially another 9mm. Ive got 8 of them already. His offer was more then fair. He was offering to buy ball 556 at what it would cost to buy factory ball ammo but if I sold him my ammo and this thing gets worse like i said all id have is a heavy stick. Ad to that that if i was faced with someone that actually wanted to kill me or my family id sure hope i wouldnt have a 22lr in my hand.

You guys are well prepared as I am, which is the prudent thing to do, and the dearth of ammo session that started in 2012 should have warned us.
However, I was speaking to the guy who may have been low on ammo, when the sudden shortage came along.

You must be another early riser. Up at 4am today. Usually sleep in to 5 but have to smoke sausage today

Yes, I am an early riser, partly by custom, but more because with my prostate problems, I am on a prescription that demands I get up and empty my bladder @ about 3:30, and rarely can I go back to bed.  The prescription also dries me out everywhere else, so I have to moisten my mouth about 3-4 times during my usual 2300 hours to just short of 0400 hours.  So then, I have to do a catnap or two during the day..the price of growing old..

BTW:  You just have to stop smoking sausage..maybe switch to cigars... ;) ;D  Just kidding..  but smoking sausage if far better than what some folks smoke these days ! ::) ;D
