Ford is upping the ante again.

The automaker has announced that the maximum tow rating for its upcoming 2021 F-150 will be 14,000 pounds, which is an 800-pound increase over the 2020 model that currently tops all light duty trucks.

(Ford)

The F-150 can hit that mark when equipped with its updated 3.5-liter turbocharged V6, which now puts out 400 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The model is also capable of hauling a 3,325-pound payload.

Ford's new PowerBoost hybrid powertrain that combines the same engine with an electric motor between it and the F-150's 10-speed automatic transmission has been certified at 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque and maximum towing of 12,700 pounds.

The PowerBoost offers the most torque of any truck in the class and even bests some heavy duty models. Its payload capacity is 2,120 pounds and it can also operate as a generator that can provide 2.4-7.2 kilowatts of on-site power, depending on the configuration.

Production of the 2021 F-150 is underway and deliveries are expected to begin in a few weeks.

cost is relative. factor in cost of living and wage levels and it price is very similar to a 1970 f150. Never owned one but owned quite a few chev 1500s from the 70s and with there mighty 175hp they probably couldnt have budged that load without using 4 low and burning a clutch up. i still remember my dad bitching in 78 when his new f150 4x4 cost 7k. He thought that was outrageous but then he was working for a bit less then 6 bucks an hour. When i retired 11 years ago i was making 27. Guys working there now are making 35. Thats almost 6 times what my dad made then. Multiply that 7k truck by 6 and your looking at 42k. About the entry level for a new 4x4. Now look at what your getting. The ride is light years better as is gas mileage, standard equipment (in 79 when i bought a new chev 4x4 the rear bumper was optional and so was an am radio) the interiors are nicer then the caddys were in the 70s. They last 2-300k not 80-100k. Reliability is hands down better and POWER!! Thats why the ford can do that. You would have had to have two ford of chev v8s one in front and one in the back to even compare and even then youd come up short. Bang for the buck. Your living in the best time to be buyer. You ride bikes? How does the price of a new gold wing compare to a 1970 honda 750. How much does that loaf of bread you bought at the store cost today compared to 1970? Gets kind of tiring with people posting new cars are junk or that there over priced or they think there intelligent because they bought a lee pro1000 instead of a 550 thats way overpriced. They say that because either they cant afford it and are jealous of those who do or are just so tight they squeak. If you want to back to the days of buying a new truck every 4 years wasnt an upgrade it was about necessary because your old one was wore out or already rusting (that 79 chev had the front fender replaced under warrantee (one year warrantee) because it had a rust HOLE in it) then have fun and bring your tool box.
