UPS made a delivery yesterday
« on: October 02, 2020, 03:18:56 AM »
The truck only made it about 30' north of my north drive way and pulled off in the bar ditch and stopped. I thought the young woman that runs this route was taking a quick lunch break and went about my rat killing. Sometime later I noticed the truck was still there along with a pickup and the hood was up on the truck. I moseyed out to see if I could be of any help but the mechanic said he had it running to where it could make it back to the hub. I noticed the truck looked seriously frazzled up close. The sheet metal around the bottom of the door had big cracks in it and the paint inside was faded and worn. I asked the mechanic how many miles were on the truck expecting around 250-300,000. He said it had about 600,000 and checked the odometer to see. No, just 583,000. At the rate this one covers ground it will have close to the 6 by by the end of the year. I don't see how they last this long around here, They are run hard for long distances and over some really sorry roads.

No. They had one several years ago that ran this route and it was gone in a couple of years. The driver said it just fell apart on these rough roads. I mentioned that to the mechanic yesterday and he said they were  junk and long gone. He said he still had some parts for them just taking up space. Considering the pace the drivers go at and the condition of some of the roads they travel here I don't see how anything lasts very long.

probably something they pulled out of moth balls to use. Ups said they cant get enough trucks with this virus crap and all things people are getting over the internet vs going out and buying them in person. he said there even paying them milage to use there own pickups for close deliverys.
