Putin is speaking the absolute truth.

When Yeltsin was trying to make Russia more democratic he remarked: Our country is slowing becoming like yours but yours is quickly  becoming what ours was.

Simple truth and that was almost thirty years ago.

  Sounds natural, when you consider that Putin is ex-KGB and still in some ways follows the communist line. 
    Keep in mind, "Social Democrat", is just another term for communism, and nobody should be fooled by that !
