Casinos, annoying with mask paranoia but still fascinating
« on: October 26, 2020, 09:43:19 AM »
Yesterday was my birthday so we celebrated by going to a German Dinner at my church.
With the virus paranioa not the serve yourself eat like a pig it normally would be but still nice. (Meatballs were excellent.)

Then we drove into the Twin Cities, actually Southern suburb and went to the Mystic Lake Casino; I will grant the tribe that owns it a nod for taking Mystic Lake, really Mystic slough, dredging it out and makeing it rather nice.
I took 200 bucks and figured if bad string keeps up I was peeing it away but it was my birthday so to heck with worry.
Well going up and down but still always near a hundred bucks from breaking even, playing mostly old school 777 style slots, I took the 90 I still had and went looking for the other half.

For Minnesota this is a large casino, equal to those by Chicago.
I walked it twice and no see um her; I walked by the new version of Quick Hits, a type of machine that  can pay big or suck you dry slooooowly but still sucking you dry.
I felt like sitting down and looke it over; technically, really, technically this is a penny maching but minimum bet was 1.00 dollar, maximum bet was 6.00 dollars.
I decided if I was going home broke do it quickly and put in maximum bet ( now these new totally electronic, no manual spin wheel have other little do-dads that can pay off or laugh at you)

With in five spins I was at 72 dollars but then while it would get lower I always would win enough to get back to 72 dollar plus or mnus a couple, THEN, if you get a certain set of characters, you get to spin the wheel, from which you can win thousands of dollars down to 15 dollars, my spin gave me 15 more spins.
When it was done flashing , playing music , pretty pictures etc. I  had 1,197 dollars.
I sat there looked at and decided, greed is evil, so I cashed out and went looking for the other half.
Found her quickly that time and as usual she had won a few hundred bucks; when I looked at all the cash receipts she had, she had techincally spen 800 dollars to win 1,100 dollars.

I mostly lost period this summer but when we went out for her birthday, two months ago, I cleared 200 buck on anther Quick Hit machine but that day a lady near me won 3,000 dollars and yesterday I spoke to another woman who had won 4,000 dollars on the machine she was playing a week earlier.
We went to a different casino for the other half's birthday, a small one in Granite Falls, Mn, and she lost, a lot, so if I go there again, it will be by myself as she is one who keeps a bad taste in her mouth , or pocket , for a long time even all the times we have gone , she rarely, I mean rarely even breaks even much less loses.
She is ahead thousands of dollars over time.

We have the Black Gold Casino about 15 miles south of us. My wife and I have never been inside and don't plan on ever being. We couldn't if we wanted to now as it's been shut down by our little Hitler since covid hit while Walmart, Home Depot, and Lowes are allowed to be crammed with people. I suppose they contribute much more taxes than does the casino. We have walked thru the hall of The Inn Of The Mountain Gods Casino that the Mescalero Apaches have close to Ruidoso. They display some very good and some not so good art, all done by indians. Excuse me, I meant first people. They also have an impressive display of their gods in the parking area. If not for the art work we would never have gone there. We have no problem with people going to them. Gambling is something that has no appeal for either of us. We don't win any money but we don't lose any either and more people have to lose than win or there wouldn't be casinos.
