LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
More than 200 Kentucky National Guard troops will be making their way to Washington, D.C., to assist with security efforts there during inauguration week.
Hundreds of National Guard troops are already stationed at the Capitol due to concerns of another insurrection similar to the one that occurred while lawmakers were certifying the Electoral College results last week.

The inauguration will look different from other years due to last week's riot, with extremely tight security around the entire Capitol complex. At least 10,000 National Guard troops will be in place by Saturday. Some will be obvious: officers in uniforms, checkpoints, metal detectors, fencing. Some won't.
'We are ready': Beshear says safety measures are in place to secure Kentucky Capitol
Gov. Andy Beshear said Kentucky is doing its part by sending 270 troops of its National Guard to the nation's Capitol to beef up security measures there. The governor gave few details about the National Guard deployment, except that it will include soldiers and airmen.
Beshear said it's Kentucky's duty to stand up to domestic terrorism.
Thousands of armed pro-Donald Trump extremists are plotting to surround the U.S. Capitol ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, according to a member of Congress who was among those briefed late Monday on a series of new threats against lawmakers and the Capitol itself.

Monday's briefing followed an FBI bulletin warning of "armed protests" being planned at all 50 state capitols and in Washington, D.C., and provides the latest sense of a heightened state of alarm among lawmakers and law enforcement officials following last week's deadly siege at the U.S. Capitol.
Beshear has remained mum about security measures here at home, except to confirm that Kentucky is ready to make sure "what happened in D.C. doesn't happen here."
The governor has confirmed that Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky National Guard are involved in security measures in Frankfort.
Beshear has called those considering taking part in any violent activities, thugs and terrorists. In the days since Wednesday's U.S. Capitol attack, the governor has repeatedly condemned all those involved.
