2020 tundra

just wanted to update on tundra. had my first oil change today. great truck. no problems. they are changing the oil change millage. first change at 10 or 15 thousand miles. then every other changes at 5 or 10 thousand miles. they say its because of the new oil. I not!!! I thing it is so they wear out quicker. so you buy new truck faster. why would they give up making money on oil changes? figure they make more money?

If your tundra wore out quick you might glance at a ford or Chevy or dodge.
Actually the new synthetic or synthetic blend almost stops engine wear.
I run pure synthetic in my truck and momma’s Jeep.  It’s been one year since I changed the oil in my truck and I still have 7000 miles to go before it’s due again. ;D

I run synthetic in every thing that has a motor at my house. Im a believer. That said i still change my oil at 5k and many times even less then that. No matter how well it lubes its still going to get contaminants in it. If your going to push it that long buy the best filter you can find. there is a BIG differnce in the quality of say a good wix filter compared to a cheap fram. For filters i like wix mobil one, delco and mopar. Theres probably other good ones but once im off warantee i use wix. Even changing oil at 5k i wont run a cheap filter. I ran into something simular to what you were told with my last truck before i bought this ram. It was a 2017 silverado. I took it in at 5k for its first oil change and the service manager shook his head and said why dont you come back at 7500 or when the change oil light comes on. I told him CHANGE the oil. My opinion might be a bit outdated but i remember back when they wanted you to change oil at 2k for the first oil change because of break in metal floating in the oil. Heck the motors i built i changed the oil at 500 and 2k and changed it every 2k for many years. I didnt change it at 2k because the oil wasnt any longer lubricating i did it to keep the oil clean. No doubt todays motors run a heck of alot cleaner. My last truck at 35k the oil would look like new at the 5k oil change. But that doesnt meant there isnt stuff floating around in it. Paid close to 50k for my truck. Im sure not going to worry about 40 bucks for oil and filter twice a year. If you wait till 10k for economic reasons before you bring it in for an oil change then buy the stuff and do it yourself for half the price so you can do it twice as often. Many dont know that you can change your own oil under warantee as long as you keep the reciepts for the oil and filter. I do it and even write the date and mileage on the filter when i do it. 60 miles to the dealership for me. Unless there doing it for free between gas and the cost of it im looking at a 100 bucks and a half a day wasted i could be shooting.

Looks like Tundra finally caught up to Chevy duramax. My '03 duramax called for 5,000 mile oil changes if you were towing and 10,000 if not way back then and running dino oil. My acadia has a oil life percentage thing like GM has had for a long time or at 1 year, whichever comes first. I made it to the year mark a few weeks ago for the first time ever in any vehicle I have owned, thanks to covid. I joined the synthetic only band wagon sometime ago.
