i ordered my G2 Contender frame
« on: March 11, 2004, 12:59:41 PM »
i have it ordered but i didnt order a barrel yet.i must make my mind up ?44mag or 45-70?i handload and thats what i will be shooting handloads.i could shoot the 44mag at max or reduced loads in a 45-70.i can always get more out of the 45-70 if i want it but i think the 44mag is enough for shooting and deer hunting.i dont know what way to go.give me some ideas please.

i also need some ideas as far as scopes are concerned.Simmons,Bushnell or Leopold?do the Simmons and Bushnells hold up on the hand guns in 44mag or the 45-70?how about the ring set up?should i go with a 2 ring,3 ring or 4 ring?ideas please

i also want to thank a couple of you for your offers on your used Contender barrels.i am going to pass on the used ones.a friend of mine has a ffl and i get my guns at cost + shipping.good luck on selling them.

thanks for any ideas

As far as for 44MAG or 45-70. You can't go wrong with the 45-70. It will do what a 44MAG will do and a great deal more. I currently have Leupold scopes on my 444 Marlin Contender pistol and it holds up great. I am putting another Leupold scope on my newly acquired 45-70 Contender pistol barrel. You can't beat a Leupold and there warranty. I have a Bushnell pistol that was on my Super Redhawk 454Casull and now is on my Blackhawk 30 carbine. It has held up after over 600 rounds of 454 Casull and hundreds of .30 carbine rounds. I myself would not consider the Simmons in a pistol scope. The ring that work for me is the Weaver 4X4 rings. I only use 2 rinds on my 444 Marlin and my 45-70. I have never used 3 or 4 rings, or never had to. Hope this helped.  :D

If you already have a 44 magnum revolver, get a 44 mag TC to go with it. That way you'll have two guns with the same caliber/ammo. If you don't , go with the 45-70 and you'll be able to take down anything the Wolverine State has to offer.
