What is it worth
« on: March 06, 2004, 08:02:25 AM »
I've been asked by a friend to try and determine the value of a rather unique air rifle his uncle brought back from Germany after WWII.  Here is a picture of it.

It is patterned after the K98 Mauser and is complete except for a sling and a pin the hold the front barrel band in place.

Both the stock and metal are in fair to good shape given the age of the gun.  The action does function but is lacking any compression. My guess is the seal is dry rotted.

The rifle is marked:  MARS 115
       VENUSWAFFENWERK ZELLA-MEHLIIS (GERMANY)

There is also a "M" and "4359060" stamped into the stock behind the trigger gaurd. All of the action parts are marked "186" as well as the number "186" written in pencil on the inside of the stock and the piece of wood the covers the top of the barrel.

Any other history or details on the rifle would be great. He plans on selling  the gun and we are just trying to get a fair asking price.

Thanks.

I've seen these around from time to time but have no idea what they're worth.
