Orion Smoker Cooker...?
« on: February 18, 2021, 01:22:08 PM »
The Orion stainless cooker has been around several years.  Runs on charcoal and wood chips.

I'm thinking of purchasing the small unit.

Anybody have experience with this cooker?
Does it work like they say and with no fuss?
And how does meat, chicken and fish taste from this unit?

Any tips about it?

Gotta admit, that's a new one on me, never heard of it before. Dunno what to make of the charcoal being outside and meat inside. When I smoke meat I want the smoke of the charcoal blowing past it and imparting the smoking taste. I'm not sure how this one does that.

Not the same brand but my adult son has a smoker and it uses the pellets like you use for those pellet stoves and you can get the pellets also in flavor wood like apple peach cherry etc. I would think that smoke from charcoal would have a very strong taste. All the people that I see or hear from that do smoking use wood. The people on Life below zero type programs seem to use alder wood or cotton wood.

Things To Consider:
The Orion Cooker includes a handy guide detailing exactly how long you should cook each cut of meat according to its weight. We strongly recommend following these specific cook times to get the best results. The guide also makes it so that you never have to remove the lid to check on your food, which interrupts the cooking process and wastes a great deal of precious steam. Our only issue with the Orion Cooker is that it needs a large amount of charcoal to operate, meaning it can be somewhat expensive to use. To get the most value of your charcoal, we recommend taking advantage of the unit’s capacity and throwing in as much food as you can per cook.
