This is just me, but think about all the things Texans are now facing.
« on: Today at 10:26:28 AM »

Over 4 million were out of power, numerous people actually froze to death, very few places to go for safety that I've read about. There are likely many thousands of ruptured water lines. That's a lot of material to be had from hdw stores, etc. Then comes water damage from homes with no power. News showed long lines of folks waiting for food, other lines for drinking water, more long lines with empty propane tanks waiting to be filled.

Gas stations can't pump gas with no electricity, needed for vehicles of all kinds, and generators.

OXYGEN users need electric to live, or a whole lot of portable tanks. I can really relate to this. We got all of mine filled last Fri, I think I could make it for 3 days without power now, then I could get more.

Food?? The shelves are, or were empty, nothing to buy or sell. It will take a long time getting back to some semblence of a normal life.
Hospitols are likely swamped but at least they usually have backup generators. No doubt there is a lot more.

WE ARE GREATLY BLESS MY FRIENDS. WE should be praising God daily for all the many blessings we have. All we have to do is look around us. There are a lot of folks less fortunate than we are. I'll shut up for now. CHARLIE.

Most of my kids and their kids were right in the middle of most of this. They're all just fine.
If your water pipes burst, its because you were too stupid to go outside and turn the water off.
If you went hungry, it's because you ignored the weather man.
If you froze to death it's because you didn't contact the police or fire departments.
There are exceptions,  but they're exceptions.

How right you are Sir. My sister who lives in Harlingen has been keeping me abreast of things around her. They lucked out and electric wasnt out as bad as most. She had plenty of water saved up but others not so lucky. Her neighbors around her had numerous water leaks and some still without water. She filled her tank with gas and an extra gas can before the freeze but now says the gas stations are out. She said many could not fill their propane tanks for supplemental heating because of being out. Even internet service has been out for days. She also told of mile long lines for people at food banks, mostly hispanic seeking food. I guess one of the major food stores in Texas HEB and Walmart stores shelves are empty. She also told me there are surrounded by thousands of electric wind turbines that quit producing because of the freeze. I offered too fly her out but she is a stubborn lady who refuses to leave. I do believe she is looking at other places to go after she can get through this and put her house on the market. Florida is on her mind. She doesn't want no part of her home state Arizona. I'm getting where I don't blame her.

Only comment i have about your common sense post is I hope the majority of Texans believe like you and keep your state red. Your Senators both won by slim margins before, your Governor more. Hopefully the millions affected there won't use it as a excuse to go blue. If it does God help Texas.

To add to the hardships that Texas is facing is the influx of illegals coming in from Mexico, Thanks to the Marxists that are controlling Biden. Also all the liberals that are leaving California, and moving to Texas, because they got tired of what they voted for.  No water, food, cold weather, or electric is short term. The damages coming from the invasion of Mexicans, and Marxists leaving states they have destroyed are going to be long term.

Have to agree with Dee. The government ain't your nanny. The reason socialism is taking over is because to many people think that government is their nanny, and expect the nanny state to do everything for them.

Has IQ Joe declared a state of emergency yet?  Has he told his illegal entry buddies to hold off at least for a little while?

We have a generator with extra gas and propane bottles. (It uses both)
We have crackers, peanut butter, pasta, dry pasta sauce mix, dried pinto beans, rice, and sweet trail mix in 5 gallon buckets with air tight lids. A propane stove with plenty of 1lb bottles, electric heaters, and bottled water galore and two-liter bottles of water for flushing the toilets.
We’ve been preparing for about two years now, and we still buy extra when we grocery shop.
It’s time to buy more buckets.

Some surrounding states sent parts of Texas some snow removal equipment. And offered line crews if they needed them. Americans helping Americans.

A lot of harsh and unfeeling words here about what these people are going through. Most of these were likely city folks not accustomed to having common sense about these things because they've never had to deal with these things before, apartment dwellers. Something wrong?? Call the landlord. Common sense and survival just don't come natural to city folks like they do to most other folks. I really feel sorry for what they have been, and are still going through.
Instead of making fun of them and calling them stupid, etc, we should be praying for them. We put a heat lamp in the cistern, another light by the pump. Left water dripping, etc. Nothing froze up, we did fine. All these things some of you made fun of are LEARNED behavior. They are not stupid, just uneducated. Bad night here, can't sleep, I hurt, just took some more Tylenol arthritiss, maybe it will calm the pain and let me sleep. GNITE, I hope. CHARLIE.  ::) ::)

heres a post i posted on the cast bullet site about the problems it tx and the problems today in the coal producing states, how they relate and what in my opinion is really happening.

Main reason thats happening?? The save the planet liberals have put so many pollution standard on older coal fired power plants that its not economically feasible for them to stay open. The power plant i worked at was one of them. It closed down 2 years ago. It was the bigger powerplant in this area. It was 400 megawatt. Not a huge plant by todays standards but substantial. Also in the last 10 years 3 other of the other coal fired plants in this area shut down for that reason. they were all smaller 50 megawatt plants. Now in the entire UP of michigan theres one coal fired plant A 10 megawatt plant at a paper mill that just supplys there power. Now what replaced the 550 megawatts of power production. A 200 megawatt natural gas plant. So we are 350 megawatts short of what we need and now have to rely on power from wisconson over an over taxed electrical grid. This isnt the exception. this is happening all over the country. We need more and more electricity and instead of building new plants were loosing more old ones. Cases like just happened in texas are going to become the norm.

Now add to that i was a lineman for 26 years. When i first started there was 12 lineman out of our district shop. When i retired there was 5. How is that possible? Heres the truth and it applys to every utility in the country. When i started we had three main jobs. Outages, new construction and rebuilding existing constrution. when i left there was no more rebuilding anything unless it fell apart. We did just new build to new customers. We did outages but were cut so short on man power that any storm that hit required contractors or people from wisconson divisions of our company to come in to work. So before when you waited 4 hours in the middle of the winter it now is 20 or 30 because they have to organize make calls get volunteers gear them up and then drive 4 hours. when they get here they do half as much because they spend half there time finding places theyve never been to. Then we have to organize supplying not only doing our own work toward restoring you power but supplying those 5-10 crews with material. This is EXACTLY what happened in texas.

Now the other thing we quit doing was rebuilds and upgrades. Our already old tired system that was built in the 50s with conductors so small there overtaxed is requiring more and more load and getting older every day. This is whats happening ALL over the country.

Coal provided the power to build this country and truth be told still does. There are new technology's that could be used to make new coal fired plants clean. But the truth is the greenies all chuck up there supper when you even mention coal (even though its what charges there electric prius's). Truth be told just like the complete bs biden is using to pull the wool over the eyes of america. Its been happening to the coal and power industrys for at least 20 years already. Bottom line is without either coal or nuke power electricity is going to be a luxury for the rich 20 years from now. Texas better open some eyes up in this country. Those 1500 dollar power bills and people dyeing and month long power outages are going to be a normal part of life if you they dont start being realistic today. People want to blame the power companys or there local politicians but it goes much deaper then that.

It comes right back around to the liberal socialist and there safe the planet from global warming bs. The power companys make money. I wont argue that but there like a drowning man just coming up from the second time and about to go back under. They are charging texans these excessive bills because its costing them that to buy that power because extra power its about as rare as gold right now. Sure isnt enough of it to heat the whole south in a cold snap or charge every car on the road in the US. Wasnt even enough for a week long cold snap in texas. Id be fuming if i got one of those bills just like anyone else. But whats the alternative. Now your going to hear the real truth. Its this socialistic plan of our government to control everything. they want the power company's to fail. Make it impossible for them to stay in business. So THEY can take over and have that control over you. Just sit back for a minute now and think about everything you use electricity for in a average day. Now think about a government that could turn you off if you didnt comply to there orders. That tool would be more powerful then turning the military out against the people. THAT RIGHT THERE IS WHY THE COAL INDUSTRY IS GOING UNDER. Its not pollution. Its CONRTOL
