Llama 9 mm imported by Stoeger
« on: February 27, 2004, 06:04:28 PM »
I have a 1911-style Llama that, I am guessing, must be 25 years old or so.  This gun has a black finish, smooth wood grips, and a ventilated rib.  I cannot figure out what model this is.  I would like to purchase another mag for it.  I have been told that a Colt 9mm mag will work in this gun.  But, I have not been able to find either a Llama mag or a Colt 9mm mag.

Does anyone know what model this might be?  I purchased a couple of gun pricebooks, but cannot find it listed.

This gun is quite accurate and functions well with ball-type ammo.  It does not like lead bullets.  Some of the problem, I think, is in the mag.  I think that, if it is true that a Colt mag will fit (and I presume that the Colt mag would be of better quality than the Llama), maybe it will feed lead loads better with a Colt mag.  I think the Spanish-made mag is sort of rough.

  Thanks for any help.

deecee:  check the shotgun news for advertisers of pistol magazines.  If you can't locate one for the Llama 9mm or the Colt 9mm-1911, try one for the Colt 38 Super.  All the colt magazines fit the same magazine well and if a 9mm colt 1911 mag will fit/work in the Llama, then so should a 38 super mag and they are a lot more readily availalbe than the 9mm versions.

BTW, few of the euro 9mms are gonna like cast bullets.  Most of the 9mm twist rates are 1:10.  My old Lyman 43rd edition lists some cast loads for the 9mm.  I think they used a S&W Model 39 for the test, and it carried the same twist rate as the euro pistols.  HTH.  Mikey.

ps:  as I recall, the Llama are built like trucks and should last you for a looooong time.

deecee, I have also had some experience with your Llama 9, a friend of mine got one cheap, then lent it to me to de-bug and break in.  I had a bunch of our department's older 9mm ammo left over, so I grabbed a few hundred rounds and went out to play.  Turns out this 9mm easily outshot the Berettas we carried on duty, and not just in my hands!  I was sorry to have to give it back to my buddy when the ammo was gone.  I have never been a 9mm fan, but that gun almost made me one!  My buddy said he got it at a gunstore that was closing, for around $160.00 total.   8)

Why don't I ever get deals like that?
