Shotgun scope on dangerous game rifle?
« on: February 24, 2004, 07:36:48 AM »
I'm looking for a scope to put on a .416 Taylor, and thinking about using either a fixed power or low-power variable "shotgun" scope, like the Leupold.  These seem to be moderately priced, and have very good eye relief.  Anybody tried this?  Pros and cons?  Thanks! :?:

Shotgun scopes on heavy rifles

skippermdj:  I have done that with a number of my heavy recoiling rifles and they work just fine.  Sometimes you will run into shotgun scopes that have parallax limitations (?) (way outta my league here in talking about those technical specifics) or some such out to certain distances but others function just like a normal riflescope but are built to withstand the heavier recoil of shotguns.  Last fall I picked up two Bushnell Banner Dawn to Dusk scopes that I was told were shotgu or rifle scopes.  They came in 1.5-4.5 power and give me great clarity.  At the price I purchased them for I'm going back for a couple more.  They had better clarity than the name brand scopes made for the Thompson Contenders.  I like them.  HTH.  Mikey.
