I didn’t watch it all, but I see nothing wrong with small calibers for EDC.
With my arthritic hands I’m forced to use .22 caliber pistols and am comfortable with that.
Old Bess holds 10 rounds and the extra magazine on my belt holds 10.

Even a 22lr in the right place will make you grave yard dead. Or incapacitated.

I am leaning that way, for the same reason Bug is.  For myself, who does not claim to be a special shooter with a handgun in the first place, a .22 seems to work best for me.

I can shoot better with a 22, and in self defense, it seems a couple three 22s planted facially, would suffice.

Yet; I hope it never comes to that !  As pistol shooters, I have to admit I have 2 grandsons, both in law enforcement..whom I truly respect for their speed and accuracy.

The question is, if faced with life or death situation, are you going to be able  to place three shoots in the face? Not having been in that type of situation I can't say one way or the other if I could do so and I don't believe anyone that hasn't done so will know until confronted. High stress does funny things to people.

Your ability to fire a weapon accurately in a very high stress situation is more important than caliber for the average person in my opinion. Most of us are probably decent shots at paper targets at the range but how are we at shooting against someone charging us with a knife or shooting back at us? Most of us haven't been in that situation. A .22 does allow the average joe to get a lot more trigger time due to ammo cost so it has that going for it. I think the most important thing is for us to train as much as possible and shoot with our adrenaline going whenever possible regardless of the caliber we choose.

Me and the little woman burn a lot of 22s.
And I think she wouldn’t hesitate to shoot a bad guy.
She’s more cold blooded than me.

I think everybody ought to carry what they want.
My pocket pistol is a Smith Airweight in 38. My preference is a 686 4 inch with 125 grain hps in magnum loads.
Ive carried all kinds of pistols over the years, but I know first hand this load works. As long as I'm able, I'll keep carrying it.

I carry a .380 most of the time but I won't hesitate to switch to a .22 if the carpal tunnel in my left hand gets bad enough. I carried a .22 Magnum for a while when I was younger.

You do know that fixing that carpel tunnel thing is a very easy fix? Ask my wife. She has had both of her's fixed several years ago. No more pain and numbness..

I had carpal tunnel surgery on left hand last Dec. 15. I still have very limited use of the left hand. I cannot hold the slide with left hand to pull it back. I can switch gun to hold it in left hand and use right hand to pull slide back.

I guess I really should just stick to a revolver at this time but don't.

What I do carry most is still my S&W M&P .40 full size gun.

I have picked up a S&W Shield EZ and it really ain't EZ to retract the slide on at this point in my recovery from surgery. The mags are easier to load. I do plan to make this my carry gun, or plan to at least. I've run 50 FMJ thru it so far and another mag of hand loaded JHP and had zero malfunctions.

It hits to point of aim with both well enough to hit my 12" plate at 25 yards and is dead on at 10 yards. So I just need to shoot it enough more to be sure I trust it 100% before I begin carrying it.

Ive heard people say that carpal tunnel is very painful. Thank goodness Ive escaped it so far, but I did come down with sciatica. When it hits it will take you to your knees, but it slowly goes away on its own. Don't bad mouth soma, I couldn't have made it without that.

Crazy, but I am right handed, but it is my left, where I had yhe carpal tunnel done.  I also had the ulnar nerve in my elbow done at the same time. The ulnar is what we call the "crazy bone" when you bump it.

It wasn't pain that drove me, but numbness in all fingers of the left hand...carpal numbs thumb and first two fingers..ulnar the third and little finger.

My aim was to get rid of the numbness... ..Didn't get rid of all the numbness...maybe half or two thirds of it.

It's been several years now, so I expect that is what I am getting.

I'm also right handed and left hand was what I had to have the surgery on. Both were tested and I figure my day is coming on the right hand also. But no faster than this is improving I'd be reluctant to do it again.

Dave I also have sciatica, first time back in the early 90s. That one laid me out almost a month before I could go back to work and had all sorts of therapy I had to do for it. I get bouts again from time to time. Sure is a fun thing to live with isn't it? NOT.

I've been dealing with the carpal tunnel in my left hand since I was a teenager and didn't know what it was. I don't know if it's just a coincidence or not but I started taking turmeric curcumin a couple years ago and have had minimal to no carpal tunnel pain in that hand since then.

Yeah it's just great, feels like a painful electric shock going up and down your spine. Very crippling.
