Author Topic: Help! Gunstock filler dried up (Read 419 times)

I was about to use some Birchwood Casey stock filler that I had purchased quite some time ago, when I realized it had solidified. I know this stuff is dirt cheap, but it would be a shame to waste it if there is an easy way to thin it out. Should I use paint thinner, turpentine, etc., or should I just get a new bottle? :?

Chances are, it is solvent based, so you could try laquer thinner. Usually, if it's like the stuff we use at work, once it is hardened, thats it. Now if it was water based, you coukd let water soak in and it would soften up. I doubt that it is water based.

You might try acetone but I doubt it's water based. Acetone is a very volatile solvent and will even disolve fingernails given time. I don't use particulate fillers such as you have. They contain silica(sand) and create excessive wear on my checkering tools.
