The shroud, revisited..
« on: June 19, 2024, 07:09:05 AM »
Being a Biblicist at heart and study, I have dismissed almost all the "relics" the RC Church holds dear.  However; there is one which is defying all the opposing experts.
That one is the well known "shroud of Turin"..   Dr Gary Habermas of liberty University, is considered by most scholars as the world's foremost
    authority on the resurrection.

Dr Habermas' Opus Dei (5,000 pages) is with the editors now.

Dr Habermas gives the shroud high marks on authenticity...  Here is a short, 3 min video explaing the conclusion.

Some of thaoe great "computer guru' guys claim they have lifted the actual face of Jesus from the cloth..take it for what it is worth..

There was a show on television , quite some time back, where they said people thought the image was what the person looked like on the shroud but it was just a 2 dimensional image, so they  used computer programs to make what that image would look in 3 dimensions.

That may be where that picture came from.

Scientists in the appropriate fields, have already decided that the image on the clothe was not transferred byu pain, charcoal or any other such
  medium...but by radiation.

Believe me , I am no "relic booster", but perhaps this is an exception. Trying to be open to discoveries, I cannot simply dismiss everything that
   doesn't fit my preconceived ideas.

We should also allow some gravity to Dr Habermas...considered the foremost authority on the resurrection, who views it as "about 80% odds of being genuine".

No, we have no picture sof Jesus from his time, since any depiction of an individual was taboo with the ancient Hebrews.

I may be reaching, but scientists saying the image was produced by radiation, brings to mind the images left on sidewalks in Hiroshima, after the
atomic bomb vaporized the people, dogs, objects etc., that cast the shadows.

Clearly it won't..that is a job relegated only to Jesus.. and we as Christians are duty bound to help arrange that meeting.. "6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."   (John 14:6)

My interest is purely that here,Diesm has perhaps affirmed science nd thgeology.  That, plus a firm interest in archaeology with it's faith confirming
task, which is happening with more regularity in these times.
