Gaza targets Tel Aviv, Israeli military responds with airstrikes
Israel says airstrikes it launched into Gaza Monday have destroyed nine homes belonging to "high-ranking commanders" in Hamas and nine miles of tunnels used by the militant group.
"That's 9.3 miles that can no longer be used for terror," the Israel Defense Forces said in a tweet.
One of the strikes killed Hussam Abu Harbeed, a commander in the Islamic Jihad militant group who orchestrated attacks against the Israeli military and civilians for almost 15 years, The Times of Israel reported, citing the IDF.

Secretary of State Blinken also says Monday that he himself has not yet seen evidence supporting statements from Israel that a building housing the Associated Press' bureau in Gaza City -- which was leveled in an airstrike -- was a site Hamas operated from.
AP President and CEO Gary Pruitt claimed in a statement that he was "shocked and horrified that the Israeli military would target and destroy the building housing AP’s bureau and other news organizations in Gaza." He also claimed that the AP didn't know that Hamas was "active in the building."
"Why do you think we brought down that building," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on CBS on Sunday, noting that their intelligence suggested that Hamas was carrying out military operations in the structure they'd just targeted.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the U.S. has "been working intensively behind the scenes to try to bring an end to the conflict."
"President Biden has been in touch with Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas" he told reporters Monday. "I spent my own flight yesterday to Copenhagen on the phone with regional leaders, including from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, as well as with my counterpart in France discussing the urgent need and the violence."
"As we've said before, Israel has the right to defend itself. There is no equivalence between a terrorist group indiscriminately firing rockets at civilians and a country defending its people from those attacks," Blinken continued. "So we call on Hamas and other groups in Gaza to end the rocket attacks immediately.
"I've also said that I believe Israel as a democracy has an extra burden to do everything possible to avoid civilian casualties, even as it defends itself and its people," Blinken added.
